A: Pearl Bradley has been a guidance counselor in the Shelby County School system for 20 years. She created this book because she has counseled students in the past who have dealt with the aftermath of gun violence. She wanted to create a book that would supplement counseling sessions and help the healing process.

A: The book is written on the level of a child, however, it can be used at all ages. It was written with the idea that it could be relatable for anyone who has dealt with this issue.
Q: Does the elephant in the book have a name?
A: The elephant does not have a name. You can feel free to name the characters in the book if you’d like. The animals are there to represent the individuals coping with gun violence and the counselor that they speak to.
Q: Is the book about mass shootings?
A: The book was written to cover any situation where a loved one has been shot. This includes mass shootings but it also can apply to other incidents where a shooting occurs.
Q: What made you decide to go with animals for the illustrations
A: The author wanted to make sure to create an atmosphere in the book that would not conjure up images of the shooting. Therefore, she felt animals would be better to tell the story than using people.
